The RSPB Lincoln Local Group is run entirely by volunteers. People are always wanted to help to run the Group. Volunteering is enjoyable and rewarding and knowing that you are doing something to help nature brings a huge amount of satisfaction as we all know how much nature now needs our help. We are currently looking for some new committee members. If you are interested in helping or just want to find out more about the Group please contact any committee member. Contact details are on the 'About Us' page
Help urgently required
Michael and Wendy Hinks have for many years supported the work of this Group by running the second-hand book stand at our monthly meetings. In addition, Michael acts as the minute keeper for the Committee and Wendy has been acting as a liaison with the management of Lincoln University, looking to generate a better relationship.
In the not too distant future they will be leaving the area. The book sales have become an integral part of our indoor meetings and it is something that we would not want to lose, in the way that we sadly lost the birdfood sales. Therefore, we are looking for someone to take on this role and we really do hope that someone will be willing to volunteer.
The main requirements are that you have the space to store the stock of books, and the means to transport them to and from the meetings. If you feel that you might be willing to consider this then please contact us at: info@lincolnrspb.org.uk or contact to any committee member
The same goes for the other roles that they undertook and if you feel that you would like to help, then please contact us, we would be happy to hear from you.
Peregrine watchpoint at Lincoln Cathedral
Volunteers are required to show people the Peregrines nesting on the main tower at Lincoln Cathedral. If you enjoy talking to people and are willing to give up a morning or afternoon on any weekend in June, July or August to help with the event, please contact Gwen Randall - contact details are on the 'About Us' page.
Help needed with national bird survey
This year the RSPB is partnering with the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) and Natural England to conduct national species surveys for Nightjar, Woodlark and Dartford Warbler. Most of the surveying will be done by volunteers, by requesting squares through the BTO website. The fieldwork will run between mid-Feb and end of July. As local groups have so many experienced birders it would be great to have your support with this work for such iconic species. Dartford Warblers are a bit outside our area, but we could certainly help with the other species. For more information see this blog by our Conservation Science team.
Hartsholme Country Park
Leaders are urgently required to lead some birdwatching walks in 2025. The walks take place on the first Sunday of every month at 10.30 am and last for up to 2 hours. You can view the Rota Here. If you can lead one of the walks for the Group, please contact Graham Mumby-Croft - contact details are on the 'About Us' page.
Birdfood sales
Due to the retirement of the existing bird food sales volunteers we are looking for someone to organise and sell birdfood at the monthly indoor meetings. You will need to have a suitable vermin-free storage area and be able to transport bags of bird food to the meetings. You will also need to re-order stock from our supplier as and when required and weigh and bag the birdfood ready for sale. If you are interested in helping please contact any committee member. Contact details are on the 'About Us' page.
